Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Authors Day In-Person
Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the San Mateo Public Library and meet some inspiring authors. Oliver Chin, author of "Awesome Asian Americans", Mina Eimon, author of "Why Cats Chase Mice", Judith Kajiwara, author of "Silly Green Mask", and Natasha Yim, author of "Luna's Yum Yum Dim Sum" will read stories from their books. Abigail Hing Wen, author of "Loveboat, Taipei", Eileen Li-Ying Lundquist, author of "Wings of Silk", and William Gee Wong, author of "Sons of Chinatown" will talk about their books with local author and podcaster, Dr. Stephanie J Wong of "Cancel the Filter: Realities of a Psychologist, Podcaster, and Working Mother of Color". The first half of the program will be storytelling and readings by the children's authors and the second half will be interviews with the adult and young adult authors. Come and meet these authors in person. Authors will have their books available for sellling and signing. Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
Schedule of Events:
- 12:00 pm - Mina Eimon will read from her children's book, Why Cats Chase Mice, which retells the ancient folktales of the twelve Zodiac signs.
- 12:30 pm - Judith Kajiwara will read from her children's book, Silly Green Mask which tells the story of a little girl named Tamiko, who turns into an animated, make-believe character when she wears the mask.
- 1:00 pm - Natasha Yim, will read from her children's book, Luna's Yum Yum Dim Sum, which celebrates diversity, math, and the power of storytelling.
- 1:30 pm - Oliver Chin, author of Awesome Asian Americans will give a presentation of his children's books.
- 2:00 pm - Abigail Hing Wen, author of Loveboat Forever, will chat with Stephanie Wong about her books. Abigail Hing Wen is an AI tech leader, film producer and the New York Times best selling author of Loveboat, Taipei, which has been adapted as the Paramount+ top comedy film, Love in Taipei.
- 2:45 pm - Eileen Lundquist will chat with Stephanie Wong about her book, Wings of Silk which tells a story of a young woman overcoming obstacles of abandonment, heartbreak, and injustice in a foreign land. She remains determined to become a woman who will impact the world. The story reminds the reader that underneath the fragile form of an individual, a strong and resilient heart is always ready to take flight.
- 3:30 pm - William Gee Wong, a groundbreaking journalist and Oakland native, will chat with Stephanie Wong about his memoir and latest work Sons of Chinatown: A Memoir Rooted in China and America.
